Dried Fukube Tray with Lacquered Finish
A lovely rustic tea tray with a “wabi-sabi” aesthetic
Hand-crafted from cross-section of a natural fukube (an archaic word for “hyoutan” gourd)
The gourd is dried over several months to harden the outer shell, then sliced and hollowed out into a shallow tray
The artisan has left the stem and natural outer shape as part of the design
Its interior and rim have been finished with several coats of glossy kuro-urushi (black lacquer)
Due to its shape of being narrow at the top and widening towards the bottom, gourds are considered a symbol of prosperity and growth
(Listing is for tray - stand not included)
SIZE (Approx.)
WIDTH (widest section) 29.1CM (11.5") X HEIGHT 30.5CM (12.0") X DEPTH 3.2CM (1.3")
WEIGHT (without packaging)
294 Grams
CONDITION - GOOD
Some wear and signs of aging of lacquer to rim. Slight scuffing to interior base. Hole in exterior is a natural feature of the gourd. Overall good condition.
CARING FOR YOUR LACQUERWARE PIECE
Gently wipe with a damp soft cloth, then dry with a clean, soft cloth
Remove rings, watches, or other accessories to avoid scratching
If wiping with a damp cloth is necessary, be sure to dry the piece completely and never leave it soaking in water as this can damage the lacquer
Keep out of direct sunlight to prevent discoloration and glaze deterioration
For long-term storage, wrap in paper to protect from damage and help the lacquer and wood retain moisture, reducing the risk of cracking or peeling
Vintage, antique and pre-loved items may show some signs of aging or wear. Please inspect the photos carefully before making your purchase.
Please note colours may vary slightly depending on monitor settings.
