Traditional Japanese Confectionary Mold
Kashi Kigata (Wooden Confectionary Mold) with Crane & Turtle Motif
Vintage Kashi Kigata or Kashigata from the 1960s~70s
Direct translation for Kashi is sweets or confectionary and Kigata means wooden mold
These were used primarily to make Higashi (dry confections) by packing and pressing a rice flour and sugar mixture into the mold
In current times, vintage and antique kashigata are also used as home decor
This particular mold is a less seen design of the auspicious crane and turtle motif
In Japanese legend, as cranes are thought to live 1,000 years and the mythical minogame turtle 10,000 years, this motif is considered to be auspicious for good health, longevity and wisdom, as well as marital harmony
