Pre-loved Arita Ware Set of 2 Tokkuri (Decanter) & 5 Sakazuki (Sake Cups)

  • Arita porcelain, Japan’s oldest porcelain, originated in the early 17th century in Arita, Saga Prefecture

  • Fukagawa Seiji was founded in 1894 by Chuji Fukagawa, the second son of Eizaemon Fukagawa of the Koransha company

  • The company has served as purveyor for the Japanese Imperial Household since 1910

  • Known for both its quality and artistry, Fukagawa Seiji produces a wide range of items including tableware, vases and decorative objects

  • This sake set features hand-painted grape motifs on a background of rich cobalt blue

  • As a single bunch of grapes bears many individual fruits, they are regarded as symbols of prosperity and bountiful harvest

  • They are also thought of as auspicious due to how their vines grow vigorously and intertwine, which can be interpreted as forming connections and increasing family fortunes

  • Marked “Fukagawasei” on base of tokkuri and the company symbol (Mt Fuji) is marked under each cup
