Kutani Ware Soy Sauce Dispenser
Contemporary Shoyu-sashi (soy sauce dispenser) with Sazanka (Camellia) Design
This dispenser can also be used as a vinegar bottle or for other condiments of a similar consistency
Kutani Ware is a type of ceramics local to Ishikawa Prefecture
First produced during the early Edo period (start of 17th century), its notable features are vivid colors with bold and elegant designs
Traditionally, the five main colours often of Kutani Ware are red, yellow, green, purple, and Prussian blue
In 2000, this Shoyu-sashi won the Japan Souvenir Academy Award for a patented lid design that prevents soy sauce from leaking or the lid falling off while being poured
It features blue and purple Sazanka flowers a type of Japanese Camellia (Camellia sasanqua), found mainly in western and southern Japan
Wild species bloom from October to December and with few other flowers doing so during this season, they have long been used in gardening and for bonsai
Symbolically, Sazanka represents devotion, ideal love and overcoming difficulties, reflecting their ability to bloom despite the cold of winter
