Bottle-shaped Bizen Ware Vase in Sangiri style
Bizen Ware pottery originates from Bizen, Okayama Prefecture, one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, and dates back to the 14th century
Sangiri is a style of Bizen Ware characterized by smoky shades of grey-blue, black-brown, or deep grey
To achieve this effect, pieces are placed near the kiln walls where ash can easily settle; the covered parts smolder and alter the surface of the clay.
Bizen Ware is favored for vases due to its natural unglazed firing process, which creates a rustic aesthetic and enhances air permeability, helping to keep water fresh and prolong the life of flowers
This is a one-of-a-kind piece, rare in both shape and design
Hand-thrown by Kimura Shigeo (1952~) of Kimura Korakuen Kiln
