Sousaku Kokeshi by Kazuo Takamizawa

This characterful Kokeshi doll, named "Tsubaki" (camellia),
The black hair, carved with fine grooves, is a hallmark of Takamizawa's style.
Takamizawa-san began making Sosaku Kokeshi in 1948 having lived in Takasaki City, in Gunma Prefecture, and opened his studio considered the center of modern Creative Kokeshi doll making.
Kazuo Takamizawa was born in 1927. He lived in Maebashi City, in Gunma Prefecture. There is not much known about him except that he started making kokeshi in his early 20's. In the beginning he used very little color in his designs which changed from the 70's onward. He has won the prestigious prime minister award along other prizes for his works. His exclusive works are rare finds as it is believed that he has not produced many.
Born in 1927, Kazuo Takamizawa has received several awards including that of the Prime Minister.He began to create kokeshi in the 1950s. These are very sober and have few colors. He decided, in the 1970s, to bring a little more color to his creations.This kokeshi is wearing a very pretty kimono in warm tones of cherry red. The patterns are pyro-engraved, bringing a slight relief.It is signed under the base of the hanko seal of the craftsman.

To dust, wipe gently with a dry soft cloth
Avoid touching kokeshi with wet hands as the dye/paint may run
Recommended to keep kokeshi away from direct sunlight to avoid wood from darkening and dye/paint fading
