Sousaku “Creative” Style Kokeshi by award-winning artisan Nozawa Kaoru (1930~ )
Kaoru Nozawa is known for ornate detailing in the painting of his dolls, however, as this piece was made specifically for souvenirs, it is less intricate in design and also smaller in size
The doll was purchased at Funabara Hotel (stamped on its side) which operated in Funabara Onsen (hot springs), Shizuoka Prefecture from 1926~1983
It was known for its pure gold baths and Okariba-yaki, a historic hearth-grilled cuisine
Marked “Kaoru” on base
