¥7,680

Antique Dishes with Hand-painted Taka (Hawk) Design

  • From late Meiji to early Taisho Period (1900~1920)

  • Made in Hizen, a province which was part of Saga and Nagasaki Prefectures and also included Arita and Imari

  • Hizen, Arita and Ko-Imari (Old Imari) are often used interchangeably for ceramics from this region, produced during the Edo and Meiji Periods

  • Small plates used in Japanese cuisine to serve side dishes

  • In modern times, they can also be used as catch-all or trinket dishes

  • They have been decorated with transfers, hand-painting and itchinmori techniques

  • Itchinmori is a technique where slip, glaze, or paint is poured into itchin (dropper) and squeezed out to decorate the piece

  • Hawks can reach their target with speed and precision, their sharp claws capturing their prey and never letting go, thus associated with grasping luck, happiness, and succeeding in life

  • Marked with kanji character “Hi” for the former province of “Hizen”
