Pre-loved contemporary piece from Yakushi Gama, a kiln located in Aichi Prefecture

The design is based on the traditional inuhariko (papier-mache dogs), pairs of containers shaped as dogs lying down
The lids could be removed to place amulets or talismans inside
As dogs are thought to give birth easily, these containers were gifted to newlyweds for good luck in childbirth, symbolizing a safe and easy delivery
This piece is made of ceramic and serves as an ornament rather than a container (there is no removable lid)
It is adorned with a crane and turtle, both symbols of longevity, along with shochikubai (pine, bamboo, plum), auspicious motifs representing resilience and good fortune
