Arita Ware Sometsuke Lidded Ceramic Container

  • Delicate Sometsuke (White with Blue Glaze) in Chrysanthemum Shape

  • Marked “Tetsuzan” (kiln name) on base

  • Originally used for kaiseki cuisine but can also be used as a trinket box

  • Pre-loved item, this design is no longer in production

  • The Chrysanthemum is a perennial plant that blooms in autumn and is one of the “Shinkushi”, a collective of four “noble” plants in Chinese art

  • The flower has been used in since ancient times in Japan for ornamental purposes and was believed to be a medicine for longevity

  • Considered to be a noble flower, it is used as the crest of the Imperial family
