Showa Period Chochin
Paper Lantern with Tokyo Tower Design
Vintage from the late Showa Period (1980s)
Chochin (paper lanterns) are handmade by skilled craftsmen using very thin washi paper
Many of these were made to be sold as souvenir at tourist landmarks and primarily used as an ornament for interior decoration
This piece features an image of Tokyo Tower along with its height of 333m
There is a small metal piece on the handle that can be used as a hook for hanging the lantern
An LED tea light candle can be placed inside if used as a lantern
Handle/Bracket detached and lantern compressed flat for storage
SIZE (Approx.)
DIAMETER 15.0CM (6.0") X HEIGHT (including handle) 25.0CM (9.8")
WEIGHT (without packaging)
67 Grams
CONDITION - GOOD
Slight damage to paper at the base of Tokyo Tower design. Some remnant of dust may be visible on the top portion of the lantern. There is a small glue spot at the bottom, which appears to be from when it was made rather than a repair.
Care should be taken when reassembling, as the paper is more fragile with age. Overall good condition.
Vintage, antique and pre-loved items may show some signs of aging or wear. Please inspect the photos carefully before making your purchase.
Please note colours may vary slightly depending on monitor settings.
