Bold Drip-glaze and Vine-wrapped Handle Teapot
Karatsu ware dates back to the 16th century and is primarily produced in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture
It reflects the wabi-sabi aesthetic, with a simple beauty that embraces imperfection and transience
Originally used as everyday tableware, Karatsu ware gained popularity for tea ceremonies from the late 16th century
While there are various types of Karatsu ware, this tea pot is made in the Chosen Karatsu (Korean Karatsu) style
Chosen Karatsu is characterised by the combined use of iron and ash glazes which melt and mix during firing
Typicall,y the darker iron glaze is applied first, followed by the milky white ash glaze poured slowly from the top
