Lacquerware from this region is distinguished by its elegant luster and durability
Decorative techniques of “maki-e” and “chinkin” have been used, where the peony design has been carved into the lacquered surface and gold leaf or fine gold powder inlaid into the grooves
Peony flowers are associated with nobility and stateliness, symbolizing wealth and happiness
Fubako were traditionally used to store letters, postcards and other correspondence
In modern times, they are also used for storing stationery such as notebooks and pens, as well as gadgets like phones, tablets, and charging cables

CONDITION - GOOD
Scratches are mostly on the underside of the base, with one on the corner.
There are also two faint scratches on the lid—one near the top right of the peony and another beneath the stem. These imperfections are not easily visible unless viewed closely.
