Marked Nihonbashi Private Automobile Association and telephone number (66) 8697 (without the Tokyo area code 03) on the bamboo spokes
As area codes were introduced nationwide in 1961, this indicates that the fan dates back to at least mid-century
It would also have been distributed to men who were part of this automobile association in Nihonbashi, Tokyo
Folding fans are considered to be auspicious as the widening end brings in prosperity, good fortune, and success.
The shape when opened resembles Mt Fuji which is also associated with prosperity and success
