  • Kobachi in like new condition by premium Arita porcelain company Fukagawa Seiji

  • Arita porcelain, Japan’s oldest porcelain, originated in the early 17th century in Arita, Saga Prefecture

  • Fukagawa Seiji was founded in 1894 by Chuji Fukagawa, the second son of Eizaemon Fukagawa of the Koransha company

  • The company has served as purveyor for the Japanese Imperial Household since 1910

  • Known for both its quality and artistry, Fukagawa Seiji produces a wide range of items including tableware, vases and decorative objects

  • Kobachi are small bowls used in Japanese cuisine to serve side dishes

  • Each of these bowls is shaped like a flower, with gently fluted edges that resemble petals and finished off with a light blue celadon glaze

  • Traditionally used for small delicacies in both Kaiseki cuisine and the home, they can also be used for dipping sauces or condiments

  • Marked “Fukagawasei” on base of each bowl
