  • Rare Sousaku “Creative” Style Kokeshi from 1990s

  • Chiyomatsu Kano was a Kokeshi Craftsman from Gunma Prefecture

  • Born in 1935, he began producing original Sousaku designs in 1956

  • In the early 1980s, he had the opportunity to present his work to members of the Imperial Family

  • From 1990 some of his works have been published within Gunma Prefecture’s secondary school art text books

  • Base is marked with year of production (Heisei 8, or 1996), the title “Kabi”, details of the award it received, and the artisan’s name

CONDITION - VERY GOOD

Some small scratches, some wear on varnish on black portion of head, one dent on back. Overall very good condition.

Vintage, antique and pre-loved items may show some signs of aging or wear. Please inspect the photos carefully before making your purchase.

CARING FOR YOUR KOKESHI

  • To dust, wipe gently with a dry soft cloth

  • Avoid touching kokeshi with wet hands as the dye/paint may run

  • Recommended to keep kokeshi away from direct sunlight to avoid wood from darkening and dye/paint fading
