Sousaku Kokeshi by Miyashita Hajime
Kokeshi titled "Yoshun", meaning “Springtime”
Vintage Sousaku “Creative” style Kokeshi from the late Showa Period (1970-80s)
Crafted by Miyashita Hajime (1940- ), an artisan from Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture
He began producing Sousaku kokeshi dolls in 1959 and went on to win multiple awards for his designs, including the Prime Minister’s Award
Miyashita retired in 2006 after his studio was sadly destroyed by fire
This kokeshi is decorated with cherry blossom design to signify spring
