Kutani Ware Lidded Teacups
Pair of Kutani Ware Lidded Meoto Yunomi (Teacups)
Vintage Meoto yunomi from 1980s~1990s
Kutani ware originates from the Kaga region of Ishikawa Prefecture, with roots dating back to around 1655 during the early Edo period
Defined by its vibrant colors, intricate designs, and often the application of gold leaf
Meoto, meaning couple, are traditionally given as wedding gifts
One cup is always slightly smaller than the other
This pair is hand-painted with red and white plum blossoms, Kohaku colours, which are considered auspicious and often used for celebrations and festivals, as well as in Japanese folk craft and art
"Red" represents joy and birth, while "white" represents beginnings and purity
Plum blossoms are associated with good fortune, warding off illnesses and supporting longevity
Marked “Kutani-yaki Ryuzan (Kiln)” on base
