Pre-loved Nikko-Bori Tray/Candy Bowl with Peony Carved Design

  • Nikko-Bori is a type of woodcarving from Tochigi Prefecture

  • For the reconstruction of Toshogu Shrine in 1634, master craftsmen from all over the country were gathered to Nikko, including horimono-daiku, carpenters specializing in wood transom carving

  • During their free time, horimono-daiku produced other wood carved items and this is said to be the origin of present day Nikko-bori

  • Peony flowers are traditionally associated with nobility and stateliness, therefore symbolizes wealth and happiness

  • It also represents perseverance, longevity and beauty
