Shisa are a symbol of good fortune and are considered to be protectors from misfortune and evil spirits
In Okinawa they can be found on rooftops, in gardens and at the entrances of homes and commercial properties
The male is open-mouthed to ward off evil as well as to bring in good spirits, whereas the female has her mouth closed to keep the good spirits in

Their manes and tails are a dusty blue almost grey colour
