Hizen, Arita and Ko-Imari (Old Imari) are often used interchangeably for ceramics from this region, produced during the Edo and Meiji Periods
Beautifully decorated antique bowls using moriage technique, where enamel is layered to create a raised, three-dimensional effect
The Kinrande technique is also used, with gold decorations applied to the overglazed porcelain surface
The pieces have chrysanthemum motifs, a flower associated with nobility and used as the crest of the Imperial family
A perennial that blooms in autumn, the chrysanthemum is one of the Shinkushi, the Four Noble Plants in Chinese art
In Japan, it has long been used ornamentally and was also believed to have medicinal properties promoting longevity
