Oribe Glaze Teapot Set
Mino Ware Houhin and Meoto Yunomi Set
Mino ware dates back to the 7th century, originating in what was then Mino Province, now part of Gifu Prefecture
Known for traditional styles like Shino, Oribe, Kiseto, and Kuroseto, Mino ware has also adapted to modern lifestyles and design preferences, producing a wide variety of tableware
This teapot set is from Shusen Toen, a kiln operating out of Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture
It has been decorated with Oribe green and iron glazes
Houhin is a teapot without a handle and used typically with premium grade sencha or gykouro tea, both loose-leaf teas
These teas are brewed at lower temperatures, for example 50-60°C (120-144°F) for gyokuro, making the houhin ideal as it can be difficult to hold if filled with very hot water
Its wider spout also helps the water cool down more quickly after brewing
Meoto, meaning “couple”, yunomi are traditionally given as wedding gifts and one cup is always slightly smaller than the other
Marked Shusen on base of teapot and cups
