Tokoname Ware Teapot with Camellia Design

  • Pre-loved small Tokoname ware teapot in like-new condition

  • Tokoname ware originates from Aichi Prefecture, with a history dating back to around 1100 during the late Heian Period

  • In 2017, as part of Japan’s heritage, Tokoname ware was recognized as one of Japan's six ancient kilns, along with Seto ware, Echizen ware, Tamba Tachikui ware, Bizen ware and Shigaraki ware

  • Tokoname’s redware clay contains a large amount of iron, giving it its distinctive reddish-orange color

  • The Camellia design has been etched using the sgraffito technique, carving through the surface to reveal the red clay beneath

  • Camellias bloom during the harsh cold of winter while retaining their green leaves, symbolizing vitality and patience

  • They have long been planted in shrines and temple grounds, as they are considered to be sacred trees that have the power to ward off evil
