Aoki Ryoka (1931~ ) is a female master artisan from Gunma Prefecture who initially studied Nihonga (traditional Japanese painting) before moving onto kokeshi production
From around 1985, she began creating Sousaku Kokeshi and has won numerous awards, including the Prime Minister's Award
She is highly regarded for the unique expressions of the dolls, as well as for her application of Japanese painting techniques
Chrysanthemums have been delicately painted onto the kokeshi’s kimono
Artisan name stamped “Ryoka” on the base

CONDITION - VERY GOOD
Incredibly good condition, having almost completely retained its original light wood colour with very few scratches. The original box is damaged, with foxing due to age and likely storage in humidity. Overall very good condition.
