Kokeshi titled “Hinagiku” (a type of Chrysanthemum) by Aoki Ryoka

  • Vintage Sousaku “Creative” Style Kokeshi (1990s)

  • Aoki Ryoka (1931~ ) is a female master artisan from Gunma Prefecture who initially studied Nihonga (traditional Japanese painting) before moving onto kokeshi production

  • From around 1985, she began creating Sousaku Kokeshi and has won numerous awards, including the Prime Minister's Award

  • She is highly regarded for the unique expressions of the dolls, as well as for her application of Japanese painting techniques

  • Chrysanthemums have been delicately painted onto the kokeshi’s kimono

  • Artisan name stamped “Ryoka” on the base

  • Comes with original box

DIAMETER 6.0CM (2.4") X HEIGHT 14.0CM (5.5")

WEIGHT (without packaging)
150 Grams (Kokeshi only)

CONDITION - VERY GOOD

Incredibly good condition, having almost completely retained its original light wood colour with very few scratches. The original box is damaged, with foxing due to age and likely storage in humidity. Overall very good condition.

Vintage, antique and pre-loved items may show some signs of aging or wear. Please inspect the photos carefully before making your purchase.

Please note colours may vary slightly depending on monitor settings.

CARING FOR YOUR KOKESHI

  • To dust, wipe gently with a dry soft cloth

  • Avoid touching kokeshi with wet hands as the dye/paint may run

  • Recommended to keep kokeshi away from direct sunlight to avoid wood from darkening and dye/paint fading
