Vintage Sousaku “Creative” Style Kokeshi from the Late Showa Period (1970s)
Crafted by Masami Kato (1925-2012), an artisan from Miyagi Prefecture
Masami married Shinichi Kato, an employee of the Japanese National Railways in Naruko, who began making Naruko-style kokeshi dolls after retirement
She also started painting kokeshi, using wooden bases carved by her husband
“Hidamari” can also mean “A Ray of Sunshine”
Artisan stamp on base, along with the date and place of purchase: Showa Year 53 (1978), October 27, in Nikko

CONDITION - VERY GOOD
Very minimal patina from sun. Slight wear on varnish on the back of the body, but not highly noticeable. Overall very good condition.

To dust, wipe gently with a dry soft cloth
