SET OF TOKONAME WARE HAND-PAINTED CERAMIC TEACUPS

  • Pre-loved cups from 2000s with hand-painted Ume (plum) blossom design

  • Tokoname ware is from Aichi Prefecture

  • Tokoname’s redware clay contains a large amount of iron which gives it its distinctive reddish orange colour

  • In 2017, as part of Japan’s heritage, Tokoname ware was recognized as one of Japan's six ancient kilns, along with Seto ware, Echizen ware, Tamba Tachikui ware, Bizen ware and Shigaraki ware

  • Plum blossom are one of the first flowers that bloom early in the year during winter

  • Due to their strong resilience and vitality they are considered auspicious, warding off illnesses and brings longevity

  • Similarly design cups are still produced in Tokoname kilns
