Pre-loved cups from 2000s with hand-painted Ume (plum) blossom design
Tokoname ware is from Aichi Prefecture
Tokoname’s redware clay contains a large amount of iron which gives it its distinctive reddish orange colour
In 2017, as part of Japan’s heritage, Tokoname ware was recognized as one of Japan's six ancient kilns, along with Seto ware, Echizen ware, Tamba Tachikui ware, Bizen ware and Shigaraki ware
Plum blossom are one of the first flowers that bloom early in the year during winter
Due to their strong resilience and vitality they are considered auspicious, warding off illnesses and brings longevity
Similarly design cups are still produced in Tokoname kilns
