Pair of Hand-Painted Tobe Ware Bud Vases

  • Pre-loved vases from 1990s-2000s

  • Tobe Ware from Ehime Prefecture originates from around 1700 during the Edo Period and in 1976 was designated as a national traditional craft

  • It is characterized by a thick, smooth white porcelain with hand-painted designs using indigo pigment “Gosu” and known for its durability and resistance to breakage

  • Both vases are from Baizan Gama, a well-known kiln which began production in 1882

  • Similar designs are still produced by Baizan Gama today

  • Kiln name is marked on base of smaller vase
