Original Hanga (Woodblock Print) Postcard

  • Titled Cherry Blossoms at Ninnaji Temple, this postcard was made for Kyoto publishers Uchida Arts

  • By Nisaburo Ito (1905–2001), it is likely to be from the Views of Kyoto Series

  • Nisaburo Ito was a prolific designer of woodblock-printed postcards

  • Initially studying painting at the Kyoto City Specialist School of Painting, he later produced woodblock designs for publishers Uchida and Matsukyu

  • His style varied from works influenced by traditional Japanese painting to Sosaku Hanga (creative prints) designs

  • The vintage card itself is likely to have been printed during the 1960s and was sent as a greeting card on July 7, Heisei 7 (1995) to a hobby exchange club in Koshigaya, Saitama Prefecture

  • Artist stamp and the characters Omuro (type of cherry tree) on right hand corner
