Vintage pair of Folk Craft Horses
Yawata-Uma (Yawata Horses) are from Hachinohe in Aomori Prefecture, Tohoku (Northeast) Region
It is said the area was originally a breeding ground for regional horses and the wooden carved horses were created to pray for their healthy growth
Traditionally, they were decorated with chiyogami paper, whereas the patterns are now hand-painted
These folk craft pieces are widely loved as gifts for celebratory and commemorative occasions such as weddings, new homes, graduations, and births
This adorable pair is a particularly rare find, with each horse containing a pair of miniature Yawata-Uma inside its belly.
