Cast Iron Wind Chime
Pre-loved Nambu Furin
Nambu furin are traditional Japanese wind chimes produced in Iwate prefecture, which is famous for Nambu tekki (ironware)
Made from cast iron, these chimes are known for their durability
Its most appealing feature, however, is its clear, high-pitched tone with a long, lingering resonance, often referred to as a “healing” tone
It is also recognized as one of the 100 Soundscapes of Japan
The ringing of furin is especially enjoyed in Japan during the hot and humid summer months and appreciated as cooling, soothing sounds
While Nambu furin come in a variety of shapes, this piece features a Toro (lantern) with a bell-shaped chime hanging beneath it
Colour-wise, although typically black, or green over black, this chime has a rarer blue over black colouring
