  • Nambu furin are traditional Japanese wind chimes produced in Iwate prefecture, which is famous for Nambu tekki (ironware)

  • Made from cast iron, these chimes are known for their durability

  • Its most appealing feature, however, is its clear, high-pitched tone with a long, lingering resonance, often referred to as a “healing” tone

  • It is also recognized as one of the 100 Soundscapes of Japan

  • The ringing of furin is especially enjoyed in Japan during the hot and humid summer months and appreciated as cooling, soothing sounds

  • While Nambu furin come in a variety of shapes, this piece features a Toro (lantern) with a bell-shaped chime hanging beneath it

  • Colour-wise, although typically black, or green over black, this chime has a rarer blue over black colouring
