Sousaku “Creative” Style Kokeshi by Gunma Prefecture artisan Yuji Kawase (1938- )
This kokeshi features kikyo (bellflowers), one of Japan's Seven Flowers of Autumn, on her kimono
With its distinctive star-shaped petals, the kikyo is an auspicious flower symbolizing eternal love, sincerity and elegance
The doll is dated on the base by its original owner: September 22-23, year Showa 59 (1984)
Location of purchase is also noted as Ikaho (a hot spring town in Gunma Prefecture) and was gifted to the owner as a souvenir “from Michio”
Marked “Yuji ©” (artisan name) on the back

CONDITION - VERY GOOD
Small scratch on hair at front. Some patina from sun on face and spotting underside of head. Handwritten note on base of doll by original owner (date & location of where purchased). Overall very good condition.
Vintage, antique and pre-loved items may show some signs of aging or wear. Please inspect the photos carefully before making your purchase.

CARING FOR YOUR KOKESHI
To dust, wipe gently with a dry soft cloth
Avoid touching kokeshi with wet hands as the dye/paint may run
Recommended to keep kokeshi away from direct sunlight to avoid wood from darkening and dye/paint fading
