Oribe ware originates from the late 16th century in the Mino region of Gifu Prefecture, named after the tea master Furuta Oribe
Made of mogusa white clay; designs are painted with iron glaze
The signature green colour is achieved through oxidation firing of a glaze containing copper
The chrysanthemum, a perennial plant that blooms in autumn, is one of the Shinkushi (Four “Noble” Plants) in Chinese art
In Japan, the chrysanthemum has been used since ancient times for both ornamental and medicinal purposes, and was believed to promote longevity
Regarded as a noble flower, it is used as the crest of the Imperial family
